Work-Study Job Request, University of California, Berkeley Job Title: Assist II (Lab Assist I) Employer: MOLECULAR AND CELL BIOLOGY Hourly Rate: $ 10.68 Positions: 2 Start Date: When filled Description: Help maintain an on-campus aquatic facility to raise the frog Xenopus tropicalis through all stages of their development as well as care for adults (http://tropicalis.berkeley.edu/home/). The X. tropicalis colony is large and requires careful attention to details and meticulous monitoring in order to keep the animals healthy. Duties will include feeding frogs, maintaining the frog nursery, monitoring water quality, preparing food, washing glassware, performing routine aquarium and system maintenance, and updating a care record database. Qualifications: Sufficient education and/or experience to be trained in the duties of the position. Must be extremely reliable, responsible, and enjoy working with animals. Must maintain meticulous records. We will provide all of the necessary training. Once trained, must be able to independently perform routine tasks and recognize and report potential operational problems. Must be able to work at or before 1:00 pm on scheduled workdays for 2-3 hours per day, 2-4 days per week. Preferred qualifications: College coursework in the biological sciences. Experience with aquatic animals and aquarium systems.
