Description: Citizens for East Shore Parks (CESP) is a non-profit environmental group whose mission is to create a necklace of shoreline parks along the East Bay shoreline. CESP worked for 20 years for the creation of the Eastshore State Park, which was dedicated in 2006, as a 2002 acre park - extending along the shoreline from the Bay Bridge in Oakland to just north of Point Isabel in Richmond. We achieve our goals through education, public outreach and collaboration with public agencies and communities. We have opportunities for students to work with us, learn how to make good things happen and start to build up their resumes. You will assist with member outreach and learn about grassroots organizing, open space preservation and public policy in the East Bay. • Learn to create flyers and action alerts. • Create informationl brochure about land uses in North Richmond. • Research, write and edit articles for newsletter and Web on shoreline issues. • Track news articles relating to CESP and issues that impact the East Bay shoreline. • Communicate with local reporters as needed • may require attendance at city council or other community meetings •
Qualifications: • Very well organized with strong communication skills and attention to detail. - Ability to research local land use issues, talk with various officials, stakeholders and the community at large. - Excellent writing and editing skills. • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel and proficient with databases and email management. Illustrator/Photoshop a plus. • URBAN/REGIONAL PLANNING, political science, JOURNALIsM or environmental studies helpful. • Self-motivated, eager to learn and dedicated to parks and open space preservation.
