Work-Study Job Request, University of California, Berkeley Job Title: Maintenance Assistant Employer: HOUSING AND DINING SERVICES Hourly Rate: $ 11.25 Positions: 2 Start Date: When filled Description: Duties and Responsibilities May Include: • Assist with non-system fire alarm testing • Perform preparation work for RSSP painting staff, post completion clean-up, restocking of materials • Perform spot wall repairs -- fill nail holes, etc • Perform painting spot touch-ups on walls, other surfaces • Perform taping cracked glass or emergency board-up of broken windows • Perform apartment-turnover related cleaning preparation and maintenance tasks including cleaning refrigerators, stoves, sinks, cabinets, etc. • Properly hang, install, anchor towel bars, toilet paper dispensers, signs, mirrors, posters, etc • Clean, organize the maintenance shop • Inventory materials, furniture, other items as directed • Install/replace draperies, blinds, other window coverings • Replace batteries in door alarms and smoke detectors • Changing light bulbs, switch and outlet covers • Classroom, student room or other furniture moves, set-ups, reconfigurations, installations • Unclog toilets, shower drains • Perform other duties as assigned • Wax, buff and reseal floors • Remove abandoned property, debris and trash from interior apartments, storage closets and areas and exterior apartment areas (balconies, patios, breezeways, stairwells) • Wall treatments: properly prepare walls for painting including washing, patching, sanding and smoothing surfaces to match existing surfaces using appropriate methods and materials; masking areas prior to painting Note: Work hours are flexible within department needs and student class schedules. Qualifications: UC Student. Previous basic building maintenance experience preferred including use of hand tools, and knowledge, mechanical aptitude. Interpersonal skills. Must be self-motivated.
